Premature Death Rate Data

Premature death rate measures mortality by counting deaths at earlier ages more than deaths at later ages. For example, when a person dies at 20, this death contributes 55 years of potential life lost. In contrast, when a person dies at age 70, this death contributes only five years of potential life lost to a county. For our purposes, premature deaths occur before age 75. Counties with older populations are more likely to have higher crude premature death rates than counties with younger populations. Therefore, when age-adjusted, we remove the effect of differently aged populations as a risk factor for premature death. This allows us to make a fair comparison of premature death rates across counties.

MnChoices Assessments

The number of MnChoices assessments by type and quarter. The MnChoices assessment allows for anyone of any age with a disability to access the support services needed to stay in their homes. Using complete applicant information MnChoices determines if there are publicly-funded programs and services available, and replaces the need for multiple assessments. Data do not include assessments completed using legacy systems.

HIC: Program Beds by Special Population

Count of beds (capacity) for people experiencing homelessness by type with data on beds for specific groups, like singles or families, and special populations, like veterans and people experiencing chronic homelessness. Emergency shelter beds include beds available seasonally and overflow beds. Permanent Supportive Housing includes Other Permanent Housing.

Race and Ethnicity Data

Dataset showing responses to questions on race and ethnicity. The data on race were derived from answers to the question on race that was asked of all people during the decennial (every ten years) Census. The U.S. Census Bureau collects race data in accordance with guidelines provided by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and these data are based on self-identification. The racial categories included in the census questionnaire generally reflect a social definition of race recognized in this country, and not an attempt to define race biologically, anthropologically, or genetically. In addition, it is recognized that the categories of the race item include racial and national origin or socio-cultural groups. Definitions from OMB guide the Census Bureau in classifying written responses to the race question: White Black or African American American Indian or Alaska Native Asian Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander Some Other Race Two or More Races There are two minimum categories for ethnicity: Hispanic or Latino and Not Hispanic or Latino.
