Waste Produced per Person

This is a measure of the kilograms of waste produced per person in Edmonton. Opportunities to recover and utilize waste as a resource are increasing; however we still need to reduce our waste if we are to achieve our goal of becoming a zero waste city. Practices such as re-use, recycling, backyard composting and grasscycling (or leaving grass clippings on your lawn rather than bagging them), as well as safe household hazardous waste disposal all contribute to waste reduction.

Measures the number of potholes that have been filled each month. Pothole activity varies seasonally and is highly dependent on weather. To be updated monthly.

Snow Clearing Percent Completed Within 5 Days

Measures the percentage of Edmonton residential neighbourhoods that have been snow cleared after a snow event. As mandated by City Bylaw (###), 100% of residential neighbourhoods are to bladed within 7 days after a snow event. Note that the first two days after a snow event are prioritized to clear arterial and collector roads.

Changes in Statistics Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the rate of price change for goods and services bought by an average consumer in Edmonton. The CPI does not reflect the type of expenditures required to deliver municipal goods and services, such as construction materials, public transit equipment and professional services. It is worth noting that the CPI is not intended to compare costs of living across jurisdictions.

EPS Neighbourhood Criminal Occurrences

This dataset provides monthly EPS-reported criminal occurrence count data at the neighbourhood level. An occurrence is a set of connected criminal events constituting a police occurrence report. Measuring by occurrences is distinct from 'incidents' or 'victims', and will not be a perfect match from what is reported by Statistics Canada. The crime types used here are for EPS's 4 Property Crime and 4 Violent Crime Indicators only. Hence, not every type of property crime nor violent crime incident is shown here. Additionally, this excludes criminal incidents that fall under Other Criminal Code Violations, Federal Statute Violations, and Criminal Code Traffic Violations. The criminal code that is used here is based on the most serious violation of the incident. For example, if a break & enter occurred that involved an aggravated assault, only the aggravated assault would be counted.
